  6. Fluorescein is a water soluble stain 
  7. that will stain the tear film and any 
  8. disruption of the ocular surface.  It will 
  9. show any breaks in the epithelium and 
  10. be absorbed by cells which have 
  11. damaged membranes.  Using just the 
  12. normal white light of the slit lamp will 
  13. show areas of staining.
